Description: Winged Thoughts (a very rare/scarce work) - poetry by Mary Anne Bacon each illustrated with chromolithograph plates of appropriate bird according to the theme of the poem. Illustrations designed and drawn on stone by E. Bateman. In a full calf, spectacular relievo binding designed Bowen Jones (front, rear and spine) and protected in acetate sleeve. All edges gilt. Illustrated with a chromolithograph title page, eleven of twelve plates, and a chromolithograph illustration to the title page. Three other pages of text also chromolithograph. Collated, bound without one plate titled 'Dove' as well as its title page for Peace although the poem is included. Overall Condition: Very Good with moderate edge rubbing with a little further rubbing to both boards but this does not detract from the special blind stamped design. Ink inscription to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned and generally clean with the odd spot of foxing and marginal tanning. Please study the photographs for a full understanding of design and condition. I am thinning out my collection due to space issues and concentrating on British Birds though this is such a lovely book if it does not sell I’m quite happy to keep.
