A series of great classical orchestral and instrumental performances by major conductors, composers and instrumentalists. The US Columbia Company had a hard time during the depression: Shuffled between several owners during the 30s, it basically became the re-issue house for British Columbia recordings. One of the only handful US classical recordings were done by CBS house conductor HOWARD BARLOW and the CBS Symphony around 1935, predating the final acquisition and resurrection of Columbia by CBS in 1939.Howard Barlow and the Columbia Broadcasting Symphony: Rossini: Overture to the opera Italiana in Algeri 1&2 12" 78 rpm beautiful Gold label pre war Columbia Condition: EXCELLENT pristine, plays E+ EXCEPTIONALLY QUIETAMAZING SOUNDA CHOICE COPYHoward Barlow (1892-1972) was an American composer, arranger, conductor, and educator, most widely known for his work as music director for CBS, and conductor of NBC’s Voice of Firestone. Barlow received degrees from Reed College and Columbia University, and went on to lead numerous chorale ensembles in New York. While in New York, Barlow worked closely with the League of Composers, and founded the American National Orchestra. He then began a 15-year position as the conductor of the Columbia Symphony, and was engaged as a guest conductor with the Chicago Symphony, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and as music director for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Additionally Barlow was a professor at Western Connecticut University, and eventually left his orchestral conducting career to conduct the NBC ensemble Voice of Firestone. If for any reason your transaction was NOT SATISFACTORY, pls contact me and I will work something out with you. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A REASON TO GIVE ME A NEGATIVE RATING or a LOW STAR RATING. Quick note on grading: The Grade (Excellent to Poor, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise."EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET" is close to noiseless, like a vinyl pressing."VERY QUIET" is an above average quiet record for a given pressing."Quiet" is a record that is a great example with some noise. These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment. Multiple item shipping: I am happy to combine items for shipment in one parcel.
