2022 Canada Governor General’s Foot Guards Commemorative Envelope FDC

Description: This item for sale is a commemorative envelope issued to honour the Governor General’s Foot Guards on its 150th anniversary. On June 7, 1872, the Governor General’s Foot Guards (GGFG) was formed and given the same precedence and status in the Active Militia as regiments of Foot Guards in the British Army. The citizen soldiers of the GGFG have participated in every engagement undertaken by the Canadian Army since Confederation – through both World Wars and, most recently, in Afghanistan. They have served abroad as United Nations and NATO peacekeepers. At home they have provided critical assistance, food and shelter to communities affected by floods, fires and ice storms. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~This item is described by Canada Post as a "Commemorative envelope" but not an Official First Day Cover. That is because the stamp on these type of items (while of interest to philatelists and beautiful in their own right) they are not sold in booklets or any other format.
