Please note this when purchasing, but also know that all of the films are very watchable. To keep my prices as low as possible all my DVDs are delivered in plain paper DVD sleeves and the DVDs title will be labeled on the back of the DVD envelope. This way you can write the contents of the DVD on the DVD yourself if you want to. (See picture). All of my DVD's come with a menu for easy film selection. Total runtime of this DVD is 88 minutes. Film 1: "6 1/2 Magic Hours" (1958) COLOR Runtime 12 minutes The comfort and delight of transatlantic air travel at the beginning of the jet age. Awesome movie about Pan Am's new Boeing 707 Jet Clipper service across the Air Ocean of the Atlantic. The music throughout this film is truly classic. Features of the "spacious cabin" jets are a big part of this film. I also enjoyed the scale model of the new Pan Am terminal at the New York Airport where passengers would move from terminal to jet under covered awnings. The passengers look overjoyed when the co-pilot announces that the jet's ground speed is now 658 miles per hour. In fact, by looking at these passengers, you would think that the flight to London is the high point of the trip. The movie goes on to show some of the activities to be enjoyed while in England and Paris. "You have extra hours to do what you want to do in a leisurely way" the film reports. Release Date: 1958 Entered the Public Domain: 1987 Film 2: "Air Transportation" (1947) B&W Runtime 10 minutes Presents the inner workings of a commercial airline, reservations, sales, weather, flight crew, ground servicing, government licensed airport personnel. The many jobs for women are specifically emphasized. Many jobs on chartered and independent airlines are included. If you are looking for a job in the aviation world of the late 1940's and early 1950's then this film is for you. Plane spotting enthusiasts will enjoy a wide variety of vintage airliners from DC3's to Lockheed Constellations. Release Date: 1947 Entered the Public Domain: 1976 Film 3: "Flying Businessman" (1953) COLOR Runtime 13 minutes This 50s film shows us all about how planes and air travel are used in business. It starts with a section on airline travel, and we see lots of grey-flannel-suited white men on airline flights, back in the days when air travel was relatively comfortable and luxurious. Then there is a section on custom-designed company planes, and we get to see similar businessmen and secretaries doing work, and also resting and watching TV on luxurious-looking company planes. Then there is a long section on businessmen learning to fly, and we get to see just what it's like to take flying lessons, which is pretty interesting. The final section shows us a bunch of different brands and varieties of planes, including weird ones like the Aerocar, a flying car that never caught on but is a wonderful little obscurity in the history of flight. All in all, this is a fun film with lots of great visuals, as well as historical interest in documenting business flight during the 50s. Release Date: 1953 Entered the Public Domain: 1982 Film 4: "Letter From an Airline Pilot" (1950) B&W Runtime 22 minutes An entertaining film which gives an overview of a plane operation, and a little peek behind the scenes. A pilot gets a letter from a passenger who loved his flight so much he wanted to know what goes on into flying a plane. The pilot responds by talking about how he prepares for the flight, how airline food is made, how planes are refurbished, and how they keep on target even when they're soooo high above the clouds. Really entertaining, it was a nice snapshot of plane travel during the 50's. Release Date: 1950 Entered the Public Domain: 1979 Film 5: "Plane Talk" (1965) COLOR Runtime 21 minutes This film shows the up-to-the minute details of plane travel circa 1965. We see many plane companies not flying anymore, eg, Eastern, Western etc. and we also get to see many airport styling's of the time. Essentially, this film follows a man who is flying from Chicago to Los Angeles. When he gets to the airport, the counter person INSTANTLY knows, without checking the ticket the guy's name and where he's going, now if that's not customer service, I don't know what is. He gets an earlier flight home, and he makes a call on a rotary pay phone which looks like a darn relic now. The husband (who looks like Rock Hudson) phones his wife (who looks like Doris Day) about the good news. he then gets on his plane (no metal detectors!) and sits beside a fat guy. They both laugh because the seat belt is too short! The stewardess gets an extension for the guy, and off they go. The film them goes off into how the plane keeps in contact with the ground, which is a little less interesting, save for the archaic 'computers' that they are using which of course, fit comfortably in a square mile of floor space. Luckily, because of weather conditions, they'll be arriving in LA 20 minutes earlier! The passengers react to this news as if it were the holy grail. Doris Day says "Ooh-ah!" to the news. (very funny!) after more radio talk, the plane lands, Doris and Rock are reunited, the music swells, and the credits roll! Release Date: 1965 Entered the Public Domain: 1994 Film 6: "The Airport" (1948) B&W Runtime 10 minutes Functions of the modern airport, showing all aspects of airline passenger service. This is a very nicely shot and detailed educational film about the usage of an airport. Somewhat geared to kids, this is a fascinating snapshot of airports, circa 1948, and is amazing to see during these 9/11 times. Release Date: 1948 Entered the Public Domain: 1977 I claim ownership and rights to this media. All the films on this DVD have been researched and are copyright free or the copyrights have expired due to non renewal.
