Description: Offered tonight is this beautifully made and well-kept antique mid-19th century German silver eyeglass case that is embellished with an inset on each side of the case with two artfully crafted panels in micro-beading. The turquoise beaded inserts have multi-colored leafy bouquets in many colors. When closed, the eyeglass case measures 6 1/4” long x 2 3/4” wide. When fully opened, the silver case is 5 1/4” wide. These two pieces were part of one person’s collection of other matching Victorian turquoise beaded objects which includes a sewing box or jewelry box that is offered in another current listing. The small rectangular sliding box for little objects like pins or matches is only 3” x 1 1/2” but is just as lavishly decorated. These objects date to the 1840’s-1870’s. In addition to the decorative beading, each piece also has prettily embossed leather—around the panels on each side of the glass case, and the entire exterior of the little sliding box, with embossed gilt designs. There are some tiny beads within the small rectangular box. The German silver glass case opens and closes with a small metal latch on one side. When opened, there are two Moroccan red leather inserts with flaps that can hold eyeglasses, a handkerchief, or papers. Both pieces are in very fine condition.
