BREATHTAKING GERMAN BLACK FOREST HUBERT HERR HAND CARVED WORKING CUCKOO CLOCK!

Be sure to have a look at our other items!This is a very nice find of a very nicely designed, hand carved, mechanical gallery cuckoo clock that was created about 55 years ago in the Black Forest of "Triberg, Germany" by "Hubert Herr," one of the finest craftsmen in this region of the world. This clock reminds me so much of the clock my father brought home right after WWII; I remember it to this day. And it works well here, keeps good time, cuckoos and chimes as it should, and has been well maintained. This traditional gallery clock is ornately detailed and has a rare, stunning, blended mahogany finish. It's the perfect size too measuring about 11" high (not counting the weights or pendulum), about 6" at its deepest point, and about 8 1/2" or so at its widest point. The clock is carved the old world, high standard way from cured and aged Linden wood which is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. The clock front is designed to look like an intricate grape vine and adorned with five, nicely carved, wooden grape leaves and a vining branch too. There is a pretty, hand carved, large wooden bird at the very top of the case looking as though he's ready to take flight. The wooden dial has a black backdrop and features easy to read, raised Roman numerals to mark the hours and a pair of matching, fancy hands to point out the time. There is a hinged wooden door on the right side of the case that is secured with a metal latch. It opens to allow for making any adjustments from this angle should that ever become necessary. The back is wood too and is secured with a metal latch. It removes to allow access to the all metal, mechanical weight driven movement bearing the Hubert Herr name and the Triberg, Germany point of origin. A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock and cuckoo activity. The bellow or whistle tubes are intact and the tops look good and make good sound. At the bottom of each hour, a colorful bird opens the small wooden door above the dial and stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a coiled chime inside the case and then retreats back inside and closes the door. The bird reappears at the top of the hour and correctly cuckoos and chimes the current hour before going back inside the case and closing the door behind him; absolutely fascinating! Like I said, the clock works just fine here, keeps good time, and cuckoos well too. Keep in mind this is an old clock, not a new one and it does work pretty well here for a 55 year-old clock but clocks do require maintenance. We don't know the service history but the movement does show signs of past service. Nonetheless, we always advise our clock customers to service their vintage or antique clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preserve a classic clock like this one and keep it running strong for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a fancy, carved wood grape leaf pendulum, and two heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. I’ve looked the clock over fairly well and find about average or less signs of use, no damage, and no missing parts. It is truly a breathtaking clock with a great old world look to it, and is just gorgeous on display! This clock is a wonderful look back at the greatness of Black Forest workmanship and is certain to capture the imagination of anyone seeing or hearing it in your home, office or wherever it is that you care to showcase a magnificent, mechanical Black Forest timepiece with a solid history behind it.
