GC Electronics Type Z5 is a non-harding silicone compound and has become an industry standard for a broad range of applications in electrical or electronics products. Z5 is excellent protection for both contacts and conductors as it provides both protection against moisture and corrosion or as a lubrication to reduce wear. As a lubricant, Z5 is extremely stable over a wide temperature range and has established itself as a dependable product for the wide variety of moving parts typically used in many electronic products. Z5 will not produce rot in rubber or plastics (as will many petroleum products). Typical applications are to protect coaxial connectors from corrosion or seizing, protection of switch and relay contacts plus lubrication of moving relay parts, gear and motor lubrication and as a corrosion-proof dielectric on high voltage insulators to prevent flash over. It is a soft dielectric compound which offers outstanding corrosive protection and as a useful general purpose water repellent with good dielectric properties.
