There is no apparent writing in the book and there are no missing pages, the cover has soiling and wear in the form of rubbed corners and spine ends and bumps along the edges, and the text pages are age-tone. The author’s business card is stapled on the title page. Despite the book using only his first name and middle initial, the card includes his full name last name and a poem. The staples have been removed to preserve the document. The author was previously a taxi cab driver who got sober in AA in 1941 or 1942. During his sobriety, he opened a Mobile Gas service station, which he used to welcome fellow members with plenty of coffee on tap. In addition to writing this small book, Dave L. P. sponsored others and shared pamphlets and cards and was the subject of several news articles in the mid-1950s. In the book, the author presents the story of an alcoholic that must face his demons to come through the other side.
