Description: Antique 19th century circa 1870 oil painting by a Hudson River School or White Mountain School artist is signed lower right -- UPDATE: AN EBAYER IN MA MESSAGED ME THAT THIS IS A PAINTING BY LISTED HUDSON RIVER SCHOOL ARTIST MAX EGLAU (1825-1900). Measures approx. 7 x 10 1/2 inches, with overall framed measurements at 11 5/8 x 15 5/8 inches.Oil on canvas glued to board is, I believe, artist-made canvas-board for plein air painting excursions. The building depicted in the painting has no walls, but it’s probably where artists and other travelers would catch some shut eye when out in this remote location. Looks like a good fishing spot, too!The painting is very pleasing to the eye, yet it has old inpaint on it and needs restoration work (fill, inpainting, varnish). Looks cleaned and ‘at a place’, meaning that some areas may not be totally clean and other areas might be overcleaned but further cleaning doesn’t look like it would be necessary.Pretty nice antique frame on this. It’s had work done to it, too, but looks acceptable enough to me. The new clips and hardware on the back are my doing. I had to reposition the painting (move up) in the frame so as to see the signature, lower right.There’s paint loss down the middle of the signature, but the painting has now been identified as being an Eglau and I'll stand behind that. Quality examples of Hudson River School paintings such as this one are getting harder and harder to find...
