Description: Here is a rather interesting tin friction drive toy train engine made by Linemar Toys of Japan. Linemar was the Japanese import division of Louis Marx & Company. Anyway, this is a #523 Baltimore & Ohio steam engine and tender (one piece toy) beautifully lithographed in light blue, green, orange, yellow, black, and white. The smokestack and sand dome on the top are both tin as well. I tried to get the friction mechanism to engage, and did get it to catch once, but only once. So likely something is out of alignment with the gears inside. I'll leave it up to the new owner whether they want to open the toy up and repair that. Looks like there may have been window inserts of some sort in the cab, but nothing there now. A truly unique toy, I could not find another example for sale currently on eBay and could find scant little information on the net otherwise. I am sure that the advanced Linemar collectors out there know more than I about this one! The toy has playwear, and the beginnings of some corrosion in a few spots, but very presentable. Measures about 7 inches long and a bit over 1 1/2 inches wide. Photos from all 6 sides, with a yardstick in the shots for size reference, plus I tried to get a closeup of the Linemar logo on the rear. Priced to sell, with only actual USPS Ground Advantage or Priority Mail shipping charged to the winner!
