The seven day flight included the successful deployment of the TELSAT I and SYNCOM-IV-3 satellites and operation of the Continuous Flow Electrophoresis System. An unsuccessful attempt was made to repair the SYNCOM satellite on orbit after a lever failed to operate the booster and place the spacecraft into its proper orbit. Discovery made a safe landing at 8:55 am after a wave-off of the first opportunity due to rain showers in the area. Discovery suffered damage to the main landing gear, the right outboard tire and the thermal protection tiles." The seven man crew consisted of Commander Karol J. Bobko, Pilot Donald E Williams, Mission Specialist M Rhea Seddon, S David Griggs, and Jeffrey A Hoffman; and Payload Specialists Charles L. Walker and US Senator E. J. "Jake" Garn.
