Description: RARE EXPERIMENTAL WELLER Pottery Trial Vase Wild Rose Cobalt Blue w/ Gold Roping An Exceptional, Rare and one of a kind Experimental Weller vase, using a Weller Wild Rose mold but finished in a striking Cobalt Blue glaze with a hand applied embossed knotted roping and finished with gold bearing glaze. The way we understand the process, particles of gold are suspended in a binder and applied to the piece. Once fired, the binder vaporizes leaving a layer of melted gold. Wild rose was an early to mid 30's Arts and Crafts Weller design by Dorothy Laughead using an orange or green glaze decorated with White Roses. This experimental vase has a rich glossy Cobalt Blue glaze with the hand applied roping finished in Gold. No cracks, chips or repairs, typical factory glaze and clay pops, skips and crazing, a few tiny rubs on the gold. Signed "Weller" on the underside as well as with the artists initials (in gold) - the initials appear to be "RM", but could possibly be "AM" or "HM" (Hattie Mitchell)?
