Description: RICHARD HAMILTONBy The Tate GalleryPublished 1992Publisher: Tate GalleryBook is pristine, has the name Thomas H Newburg, Tate Gallery, 7/23/92 handwritten on first interior page This catalogue has been produced to accompany the most important exhibition to date of the work of Richard Hamilton a key figure in twentieth-century British art. It surveys his final statements, primarily as a painter but also including two environments and functional equipment he has designed, such as a a working computer and a high fidelity amplifier which merges object with painting. Over a hundred works chart Hamilton's career, from previously unexhibited paintings of 1940 to a new canvas commenting on the Gulf War of 1991. Richard Hamilton is recognized internationally as one of the founding creators of Pop art and the catalogue traces in detail the emergence of this tendency, reproducing all of Hamilton's masterworks in the genre. It shows however, that it is impossible to confine his vision within the concept of Pop, for Hamilton's art engages with a kaleido-scope of subjects, from lyrical landscape to space exploration, from architecture to eroticism and from great art of the past to contemporary moral issues. Seen together, the striking and surprising images which Hamilton has created constitute a thought-provoking commentary on life in the modern era. Please see the additional photographs for more viewsSHIPPING POLICYCOMBINED SHIPPING on all multiple purchases.
