Description: SC-144 "All servitude is wretched" PMG VF25 $30 1777 South Carolina Currency Click images to enlarge Description Rare, Very Choice, and signed by at least (2) Revolutionary War Solders who likely saw action in the American Revolution War. February 14, 1777 "THIRTY DOLLARS" South Carolina Colonial Currency Note. Very conservatively graded & certified by PMG as VF25, with the look of a slightly better grade. There are no problems of any kind, and there are no pin holes. Superb eye-appeal for the grade with bold serial number and signatures. Darkly inked on both sides including a "Man with pack" seal and the Latin motto "MISERA SERVITUS OMNIS" which translates as "All servitude is wretched". The Man with a heavy pack vignette undoubtedly represents the unjust burden put-upon the American Colonies by the Royal British Government which was a main driving force to rebel. Only 6,160 of these notes were originally printed. Very few of them have survived, especially in such nice condition as this example. Bold & Low 3-digit serial number 615 in brown ink, along with the equally bold signatures of William Logan, Samuel Legare, R.W. Powell, and William Parker (light vertical signature). William Logan, fought in the Battle of Kings Mountain in 1780 as a Private in the 1st North Carolina Battalion commanded by Colonel Thomas Clark. Samuel Legare, served as a Lieutenant in the Charles Town District Regiment of the South Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War. Newman lists a value of $1,000 for a note in VF condition (VF20) on page 425 (see photo). This note is graded 5 points better at VF25 by PMG. This is an authentic & historical item that was printed in 1777 and issued during the Revolutionary War (1775-1783), just a few short months after the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
