Description: A very beautiful and elegant antique James I period seal top spoon made in the Waveney valley. It has the classic fig shaped bowl with a tapering flat hexagonal stem and fluted baluster knop. The top has pin pricked initials RS over RS with 1620 above. Struck in the bowl with mark composed of four hearts containing three pellets. This spoon is attributed to Beccles in Suffolk, the Waveney valley was a prosperous area and numerous spoons were made by local silversmiths. It is in a very good condition with the bowl still have the fig shape with no breaks or repairs. Some of the original gilding is still visible on the seal top. 17.2cm length. 39 grams. 5cm width of bowl. A very rare and collectible piece of provisional silver that is now over 400 years old.
