Description: For your consideration is a one-gallon stoneware jug. On the bottom: E S & B is embossed; this mark stands for Elverson, Sherwood & Barker, which was a pottery co. that made stoneware items, this co. was located in New Brighton, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. The underglaze writing is in underglaze oval and reads: HAYNER LOCK BOX 290 DAYTON, OHIO. I think it is interesting that the writing is on the same side as the handle (which to me is the back). It has Bristol or zinc type glaze; most companies started using this type of glaze in the middle or late 1890s. It is pre-prohibition, which began in 1919. It appears to have Albany slip glaze on the inside, but I cannot hold a light where I need, to see inside. This molded jug has a height of approximately 11" and the bottom has a diameter of approximately 6 3/4". This jug is an old item that has been used. It has 0 cracks and 0 chips, however it needs to be properly cleaned. Please, carefully examine the pictures, as the pictures are part of the description.Whenever it is practical, I will combine shipping. Local pickup is encouraged and is free. For bookkeeping purposes, this is lot DGW-1200.
