The Trial of Al Capone by Robert Ross, 1933, RARE Chicago Bar Association

Description: "The Trial of Al Capone" by Robert Ross. 1933 Robert Ross, publisher. Stated First Printing, May, 1933 (A bookseller in Canada claims that this is a second state version of the first printing, with a cover price of 50 cents. First state was cover price of 25 cents.). 128 pages with black and white photo sections. Trade paperback / softcover. This copy of "The Trial of Al Capone" was apparently presented as a gift by the author/publisher Robert Ross to the Chicago Bar Association. The handwritten inscription on the first free page is (hand printed): "Presented to the CHICAGO BAR ASSOCIATION by Robert Ross -- June15, 1933". The copyright page also has a few stamps related to this gift. The first stamp says: "PRESENTED TO THE CHICAGO BAR ASSOCIATION BY" and this is followed by what could be the signature of Robert Ross. Or it could have been written by someone at the Bar Association. (I could find no exemplars of Ross' signature online.) Below this stamped and signed line, there is a second line of stamps. One stamp is simply "RECEIVED______", and the second stamp, positioned about the line of the first stamp, is a stamped date: "JUN 15 1933". Also, in at least three locations in the book, there is an oval stamp with the words "Chicago Bar Association" in the middle, and a handwritten number, 22975, just below the stamp. This appears to be a library item number. I have seen writing in the book in one other place. Between pages 64 and 65 there is a 4 page photo spread. One of the photos is of the government's team of lawyers. The lawyers are identified as Mr. xxx. Someone wrote the first names below the lawyers names. Following is the photo caption. What was written in pencil below the names is in parenthesis: Mr. Clawson (Samuel), Mr. Johnson (George E Q), Mr. Green, Mr. Froelich (William J), Mr. Grossman (Jacob). The book covers Capone's contempt trial and his income tax evasion trial. The writing is based on the court transcripts. When the book was published, Capone was in jail in Atlanta. This appears to be a rare book. Given that this was a gift to the lawyer's association of Chicago, where I suspect the government's lawyers were members, this could be considered an association copy. And there's the possibility that you have the signature of the author. Book was found at a Chicago suburban estate sale. Photos are of the actual book on offer. See the photos for additional insight into content and condition of this rare, contemporaneous look into Al Capone's trials.
