Description: The most perfect late 1930s - early 1940s fall dress! Made from classic rayon crepe in the most gorgeous dark reddish brown / burnt umber shade, the dress has a crew neckline, a draped bodice with shirring at each shoulder as well near the cuffs of the 3/4 length sleeves, a fitted waist with a front twisted waistband, and a full, midi length skirt. It has an upper back and side zipper closure as well as an attached back sash to tie in a bow. Clean and ready to wear! I rescued this dress from a university costume department so it still has a tag inside. The dress is nice and sturdy, but it does have scattered little darns / mends, including one near the side of the skirt, on the waistband, in the upper back, underarm, center of the bodice, and several around the neckline, as a few other minor pulls / scuffs as well as a little hole in the folds of the waistband. The shirring is missing a few stitches. There is some variation to the color, and some areas, (such as the shoulder, underarms, sides / bottom of the skirt, and bottom of the sash) have faded to be more reddish. However, it gives the dress a cool ombré effect and doesn’t take away from it as a whole, in my opinion. There is a more overt line of fading on the tops of the shoulders, but this shouldn’t be super noticeable during wear. It is an imperfect dress that I wouldn’t recommend to someone who isn’t comfortable with flaws, but it does present beautifully!! Sold as-is.
