Auction: Currently up for auction is a 1970 Mattel Sea Devils Kretor Action Figure. This mythical creature from the deep has surfaced! As a Sea Devils Collector, you KNOW how rare this figure is. Stamped on the RIGHT foot: © 1970 MATTEL INCHONG KONGUSA FOREIGN PATENTEDPATENTED IN CANADA 1970 Stamped on the LEFT foot: 6389-0150 1 Condition: This vintage 1970's Kretor Sea Devil's figure is in excellent shape for a 50+ year old item. The color is vibrant, body is solid, and all wires are intact. The figure is also unpainted, and appears to be a preproduction item, which makes it even rarer. There are tiny cracks starting in armpits, which is common on this figure due to age. This item has never been played with and has been safely stored in a smoke free home inside a plastic tote.Note: Remember color can vary a bit due to lighting. Background: The "Sea Devils" were produced by Mattel (after the Major Matt Mason line) from 1969-1970. While Major Matt Mason explored space, the Sea Devils explored the ocean's depths. These "aquanauts" featured the same bendable body style as the Major Matt Mason line, which were a rubber-like material molded over a wire armature. Unfortunately the wire frame often suffers from metal fatigue, breaking at the shoulder, elbow, knee, and hip joints, giving these toys a limited life span. Like the Major Matt Mason figures, the Sea Devils also frequently suffer from splits at the joints, broken wires, and paint loss. There were two basic frogmen, Commander Carter and Rick Riley, each came with the following accessories: oxygen tanks, fins, hoses, face mask, helmet, battery-powered sea sled, and pump (which enables the figure to dive and resurface). The Search and Rescue set came with an Aqualander (a land and sea vehicle). Their enemies were Kretor and his shark Zark, which are even rarer than Major Matt Mason's Scorpio in any, much less good, condition. Kretor seems to split around his arms, and is almost impossible to find without broken wires or surface damage. Take advantage of this opportunity to pick up this unique, and very rare, item that will make a fine addition to any Sea Devils enthusiast's collection.
