Artist Biography: Faye Franklin has been a gifted artist for over 65 years. Born in Chicago in born 1921 died 2012. Franklin received a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago at the age of 11 and has studied art at the Chicago Academy of Art, the Old Town Art Institute and the Evanston Art Center where she studied painting under Paul Weigardt a Bauhaus artist and sculpture with Nellie Barr she also exhibited at the Art Institute "Rent" during the 60 through 80's . Franklin's imagery has focused on colorful, detailed representations of figures-mostly women and children. In viewing her works, one can't help but feel that here images contain elements of both real and imagined. Her figures strike the viewer as oddly familiar, as if reminiscent of individuals we feel we know quite well. Yet these figures appear whimsical and spontaneous- made intensely alive through the artist's use of vivid color and an animated line that dances over the surface, revealing an attitude of bold self-confidence. "I want people to feel happy when they look at my art", says Franklin. " I want them to feel hope." Franklin combines a variety of drawing and painting media in her work, to include oils, ink, colored pen, pastels and watercolors. Some of the works reflect a more subdued, even monochromatic palette. Franklin refers to these works as expressing a different mood or feeling, similar to that of music. Whatever the subject matter, Franklin reflects that "often I get an idea from someone I know or something that's happened in my life; but just as often it seems to come entirely from my imagination." Faye Franklin's life has been devoted to her art. " I have never stopped studying art" says Franklin. "There is always more to learn."
