Vintage RARE 1950's Electro Voice 645 / 650 dynamic microphone w 423A 666 # 1

Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a one of the rarest microphones built by Electro Voice during the mid 1950's in Buchanan, Michigan and it comes with an original E.V 423A desk stand. This 645 microphone was a very expensive model in the E.V line up so very few were sold and they are quite hard to come by these days. Pic # 2 shows this very model along with the 650 model in an old 50's era E.V catalog along with it's basic characteristics and price. The 650 model had a very modern contemporary look to it being very unique and looking like no other microphone ever made. The E.V 645 was very similar but utilized a different front grill. This 645 model mic is a highly polished chrome mic with a what was described as a high output dynamic element and an adjustable impedance switch you could use for a whole range of applications. It had great uni-directional characteristics as well and were quite expensive and generally cost 3 to 4 times more than most of the mics E.V was producing at the time. I have heard these with good elements and they sound fantastic. This one happens to be not be one of them. It's been tested and the element is still working but the signal strength is only about 60% of what it should be so this particular example should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only. Because of their high costs E.V seemed to have sold very few of these in the short amount of time they were offered for sale. Again, this mic does work but it's just suitable for most applications as it was originally designed. The 650 & 645 had the revolutionary XLR connection which very few mics had at that time. The dual switch on the lower pistol grip was intended for High and Low Z depending on the users needs. As seen in the pics provided the mic has very lite wear in the form of tiny scratches & scuff marks. There is no pitting, dents, fractures or engravings. The E.V badge looks very nice and still very legible. The black inner cloth on the screen is free of any holes or rips. The joint mechanism works perfectly as well with adjustable tension. The mic is quite large in it's size. 5 inches tall X 5 inches long and 2 inches wide. Weighing in at a solid 2 pounds she's built like a tank. No loose or missing parts. If you are a hardcore collector of vintage mics then you'll appreciate one of these hard to find 645's. A funky mic to display and sure to draw attention anywhere it sits. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE... The desk stand is a period E.V 423A desk stand included which shows slightly more wear but compliments the 650 microphone quite nicely and makes for a stable platform. The 423A was manufactured for about 30 + years and is great for any small to medium sized mic. It's 5 1/2 inches tall X 5 inches wide. Total height with the mic and stand is appx 11 inches high. 12 inches in height when the mic is raised upright. The satin chrome stem shows very lite wear and the top of the base shows some scratches, scuff marks and fine pitting. Please let the detailed pics be your guide. All 3 original felt pads are present to keep the stand from scratching any surface it may sit on. This stand has the universal 5/8 thread. As with all my vintage microphones...
