Description: WW I US Marine Corps 3rd Bn 6th Regiment Belleau Woods History Book This is a RARE long out-of-print book that comes in 8 ½ x 11 staple bound reprint of an otherwise almost impossible to find book. Features an awesome photo of the battalion commander Lt Col Sibley. The 3rd Battalion consisted of the following companies; the 82nd, 83rd, 84th, and 97th Companies. Virtually all of the senior officers and staff NOCs of the 6th Marines were long-service professionals Tons of details of the battalion participation in the Verdun Sector in the spring of 1918. This was their first experience in the trenches, and consequently this is where the Marines had their first casualties. Then covers the Chateau Thierry Sector which starts off with the Aisne Defensive from May 30th to the 4th of June. The Marines stopped the German march on Paris in their tracks. Then this battle on the offensive with the assault over the wheat fields into Belleau Woods. The offensive in the Soissons sector lasted for a week on July 18th near the town of Vierzy. The assault was stopped short with 50 to 75% casualties in some companies. In September the Marine assaulted the St. Mihiel salient suffering about 600 casualties. Then the terrible assault of the ridges of Blanc Mont where the Marines suffered a huge amount of casualties, but the Germans could not hold them back were forced from their defensive positions out of the sector. They the redirect the assault through the Argonne Forrest and carried it through to the Meuse River in the beginning of November. Then it covers the march on the Rhine and the occupation of Germany in 1919. This staple bound book has 147 pages in it.
